Traditional Balsamic Vinegar and Parmigiano Reggiano tour
A tour in the heart of the Padana Valley. This area is considered to be the bread-basket of Italy and many of the world wide famous food brands come from here. Parmigiano Reggiano is one of the world’s three or four incomparable cheeses. Its uniqueness has been recognized far beyond Italy’s borders for over seven centuries. The secrets of Parmigiano Reggiano’s quality are found in its inconsistencies and can be made only within its legally designated zone. Today’s tour will also take us on a journey to discover a product of the genius and passion of men from this area: The Balsamic Vinegar. The first documented trace of the existence of Balsamic Vinegar appears in 1046 when the German emperor Henry II made a stop in Piacenza and where he requested for a special Vinegar that “he had heard trickles perfectly”.
The Etruscans: a visit to the ancient villages of Sovana, Sorano and Pitigliano
Where did the history of Italy start first? The most common answer would be Rome, but it’s wrong.
The Etruscans came from Mesopotamia and populated Italy at least 2000 years earlier than the
Romans did and left to us the signs of their great civilization. We can see their early houses and villages. Lunch will be in a typical restaurant of the area: it will be one of the highlight of your day trip.
Le abbazie: Monte Oliveto Maggiore, S. Antimo
A tour in the heart of the Christianity with the visit of some beautiful works of art plunged into a sacred and spiritual environment. You will have the chance of listening to a religious ceremony in French and you could admire the famous “Sword in the rock” nearby the roofless Abbey of San Galgano. You’ll admire the faboulos frescos at Monte Oliveto Maggiore telling the life of San Benedetto. The lunch will be in a restaurant located in surrealistic place surrounded by the Clay Hills.
Assisi and Deruta
The town of Assisi will charm you because it is the sacred place founded in memory of Saint Francesco. Deruta is world wide famous because of the local pottery production and you’ll be introduced into one of the most prestigious family style factories to see how pottery is produced. On the way back to your place we will make a small detour, depending on the remaining time, to visit the only water-paper mill that still works in central Italy or, if you like, we can have a stop at the breathtaking village of Cortona where the famous book “Under the Tuscan sun” was written. We will offer you a typical lunch of the Umbria region.
