DAY TOUR
#4A
- ANCIENT CORINTH (Half Day)
VALIDITY:
APR.01, 2005 - MAR.31, 2006
Every
Mon & Fri from Apr 18 to Oct 28
Dep. 8:45 am - Ret. 1:30 pm
Drive west
from Athens, along the scenic coastal highway to the bridge crossing
the spectacular Corinth Canal (brief rest stop and photo
opportunity). Continue to the site of Ancient Corinth, one of the
most celebrated cities of antiquity, owing its great importance to
its strategic physical location that controlled the only land route
into the Peloponnese. Most of the remains we see today date from the
city’s Roman control; but the archaic Greek Temple of Apollo still
partially stands in ruins and is one of the oldest in Greece. Here
is 52AD St. Paul appeared before the Roman governor Gallio and later
wrote his famous letters to the Corinthian Christians. Before
returning to Athens we will make a brief stop at the site of the
ancient port of Kenchreai where St. Paul disembarked in 51AD and
founded a Christian community.
