Enjoy a tour of Athens, combining many of the cities principal modern and classical sights. This tour includes an overview of the modern city, and striking contrasts to the remains of its glorious past. Drive to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Parliament House on Constitution Square, the Panathenian Stadium (site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896). See vistas of the Presidential Palace (ex Royal Palace), government buildings and elegant homes. Drive along Panepistimiou Avenue and view the Catholic Cathedral, the Academy, University, National Library and Omonia Square. In contrast, we visit the Roman Temple of Olympian Zeus, and the crowning beauty and glory that was Athens, the Parthenon with its many monuments atop the Acropolis, including the Propylea, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion with its Porch of Maidens. We also visit the Acropolis Museum.

Your evening dinner/tour begins with a pleasant orientation drive along the illuminated boulevards of Athens, as far as Piraeus, Greece's principal commercial port. Continue to Marina Zea, one of the busiest yacht harbors in the Mediterranean, and home port to many luxury pleasure yachts belonging to Greece's shipping and jet-set communities. From here, a short drive to pretty Mikrolimano, another picturesque yacht and fishing boat harbor, home to the ex Royal Yacht Club and many fine waterfront seafood restaurants. We finally return to Athens and the renowned "Plaka" district, located around the base of the Acropolis, for dinner with live floor show at a typical Greek taverna.

#4A - ANCIENT CORINTH (Half Day)

Drive west from Athens, along the scenic coastal highway to the bridge crossing the spectacular Corinth Canal (brief rest stop and photo opportunity). Continue to the site of Ancient Corinth, one of the most celebrated cities of antiquity, owing its great importance to its strategic physical location that controlled the only land route into the Peloponnese. Most of the remains we see today date from the city’s Roman control; but the archaic Greek Temple of Apollo still partially stands in ruins and is one of the oldest in Greece. Here is 52AD St. Paul appeared before the Roman governor Gallio and later wrote his famous letters to the Corinthian Christians. Before returning to Athens we will make a brief stop at the site of the ancient port of Kenchreai where St. Paul disembarked in 51AD and founded a Christian community.

Drive along the coastal road of the Saronic Gulf to the Corinth Canal (brief stop). Proceed to MYCENAE, visit the remains of the ancient city, including the Lioness Gate, the Tomb of Agamemnon and the Palace. Then through ARGOS on to NAUPLIA. After lunch visit EPIDAURUS and its theatre, famous for its remarkable acoustics. Return to Athens via the Epidaurus/Corinth road.

Drive through LEVADIA and ARACHOVA (famous for its bright multicoloured carpets). Arrive in DELPHI, the ancient sanctuary of Apollo. Visit the Museum in which one can see among other archaeological treasures, the unique bronze Charioteer, then proceed through the sacred way to the Athenian treasury. Visit the Temple of Apollo, the Castalia Spring, etc.

#27 - 3-ISLAND CRUISE:  HYDRA*AEGINA*POROS in the Saronic Gulf

Daily service all year round including most holidays.

7:45 a.m. Transfer by motorcoach from Athens to Flisvos Marina and embark on your cruise ship.

8:30 a.m. Sail for the island of HYDRA. In Hydra you have time at leisure for strolling, shopping or swimming. In the early afternoon sail for the island of AEGINA, passing through the narrow strait separating the Peloponnesian coast from the island of POROS. Lunch is served after sailing. Short visit of Poros. Upon arrival in Aegina you can either join the excursion to the Temple of Aphaia (extra cost) or walk around the main town. Finally, re-embark for the sail back to Flisvos Marina.

7:15 p.m. Arrival at Flisvos Marina and transfer to Athens.

N.B.
1) In the winter the cruise ship returns to Flisvos Marina at around 6:00 p.m.
